Where Should I Stay While Visiting the Banff and Lake Louise Area?

There are so many lodging options near Banff and Lake Louise. The primary things to consider are:

  • Your budget

  • The activities you want to do and how close the lodging is to them

  • Your lodging preferences

Canmore is about 20 minutes from Banff and offers several condo type options which can be booked by local partners, as well as Vrbo and Airbnb. The town of Canmore is stunning and offers great hiking, walking trails, dining options and shopping. It has a relaxed vibe and beautiful mountain views everywhere you look!

Banff offers many traditional hotels with fewer Airbnb/Vrbo options. You will pay elevated prices for being right in Banff, but it's certainly convenient! There are higher priced hotels such as the Fairmont Banff Springs to lower priced hotels for many budgets.

Lake Louise has a handful of lodging options with the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise being the most iconic. Staying in Lake Louise is beautiful, but you are further removed from Banff so be mindful about what you want to do as it could mean more travel time. Baker Creek Mountain Resort is another unique option near Lake Louise.

The views from the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise are breathtaking no matter the season.

Emerald Lake Lodge provides guests a truly unique lodging option steps away from Emerald Lake. This beautiful destination is removed from the hustle and bustle and is surrounded by sweeping views, hiking trails and paddling (seasonally). The Lodge itself has dining options onside and enables guests to disconnect (there's only wifi in the main lodge).

There are also multiple camping options and if you plan on going to Jasper or Kootenay National Parks, there are lodging options which are closer to them. This post only skims the surface of lodging and before making a decision, first consider what you'd like to do during your time in the Canadian Rockies!
