Important Reminders When Visiting the Banff & Lake Louise Area

Here are several miscellaneous reminders when visiting the Banff area:

  1. The summer months are very busy. Take advantage of public transportation when people.

  2. Reservations may be required visiting Moraine Lake and Lake Louise. Due to the popularity, this helps ensure the landscape isn't bombarded too much.

  3. If you are parking in the town of Banff, you will need to pay for parking. There are signs everywhere, and you can also download the parking app.

  4. A park permit is required for entry to Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks. There are multiple locations to purchase your park pass.

  5. There is very limited, if any, cellular reception in Yoho and Kootenay National Parks.

  6. Visa and Mastercard are the primary credit cards accepted. AmEx and Discover are typically not accepted.

  7. The town of Canmore offers multiple grocery stores and is a great spot to stock up on goods for your trip. Consider bringing reusable bags with you.

  8. Canada has very strict entry laws. If you have any criminal history, including a DUI, you may be denied entry. Depending on when and what the crime was (including a DUI), there is additional paperwork you can fill out for potential entry. Do this in advance.

  9. Be prepared for varying weather...even in the summer months! The weather in Canada is unpredictable. We have had immense snow in late June and unseasonably warm temps in October. Be sure to pack the right clothing and shoes, and look at the weather in advance.

  10. Make reservations. The Banff area continues to grow in popularity so reservations for car rentals, dining, etc. is advised. Many restaurants use OpenTable which makes things easy. There are limited lodging options so definitely book as far as you can in the summer months!

I'm sure there are more considerations, but these are just a few quick reminders!
